“I have the pleasure of welcoming you this morning on behalf of the Digital for Development (D4D) Hub, to this Innovation Networking Event, ahead of the official opening of GITEX Africa 2026.

GITEX Africa has quickly become a key continental platform for digital transformation, innovation and investment dialogue. It brings together governments, the private sector, start-ups and international partners, and offers a valuable space to build partnerships and turn ideas into concrete cooperation.

In this context, Italy, as a member of the D4D Hub, is proud to contribute to a coordinated Team Europe presence, in partnership with the European Innovation Council, and in close collaboration with the EU Delegation to Morocco, the European Commission, and EU and D4D Hub Member States. Together, we are working to strengthen digital cooperation among European and African partners, promote the EU Tech Business Offer and a human-centric approach to digital transformation.

Italy is actively engaged in the D4D Hub through both the EU Neighbouring Countries Branch, covering North Africa, among others, and the Africa Branch, covering Sub-Saharan Africa. This event, bringing together institutions, businesses and innovation actors from Africa, Europe and beyond, with the aim of fostering dialogue, coordination and concrete partnerships, also serves as the multistakeholder forum of the EU Neighbouring Countries Branch.

Over the coming days, the European Pavilion will host a dynamic programme of discussions and exchanges, including panels and sessions with the private sector. Key themes will include the EU Tech Business Offer, which aims to mobilize European expertise and investment for secure and trusted digital solutions, Artificial intelligence, digital innovation in agrifood, water management and connectivity, as well as concrete opportunities for European and African businesses to grow and expand their markets together.

Italy is fully committed to advancing this shared agenda, in close cooperation with European and international partners.

Italy also enjoys strong and longstanding cooperation with Morocco, including in areas such as innovation, infrastructure and sustainable development. We see clear potential to further strengthen this partnership, particularly in the digital domain.

This morning offers a valuable opportunity to connect, exchange views and explore new avenues for collaboration.

I wish you all a fruitful discussion and a successful GITEX Africa.
